How does somebody steal a water tanker without anybody noticing? And what do you do with it?

With parts of South Africa currently facing a water crisis, tankers have been despatched to help out. But The Star newspaper reports that three tankers, parked in South Hills, Westdene and Crown Gardens, have been stolen.

Spokesman Hilgard Matthews said the tankers were 2 500-litre and 5 000-litre tankers.

“We believe they are being stolen at night when people are sleeping. This is a very selfish act, as the tankers are there to assist residents,” he said.

The drought isn’t likely to ease any time soon, with the chance of rain unlikely in the next few days. The SA Weather Service has also warned that rain will only bring temporary relief.
